Kevin Kisner When it was Going Good
This video is from 2015 just after Kisner won in Georgia. Here is the copy I posted with the video:
"It's no surprise when you look at his swing up close that Kevin Kisner won the PGA Tour event last week and has almost won a bunch of other ones, including the Player's Championship, where a lip out on the last hole eventually cost him the title. He exemplifies solid swing mechanics, and his takeaway and hip movement throughout the swing are about as good as you will find. By keeping his hands and club on plane in the backswing Kisner simplifies the transition and downswing, and you can see his left arm responding to the movement of the lower boy, which moves the handle directly back toward the ball starting down. The sequence begins from the ground and works quickly into the right hip, which rotates inward to keep the right leg sliding and twisting inside of its original position. As far as keep the hips "deep" during the swing Kisner is a model to attempt to emulate. His right heel barely leaves the ground by impact with just about every club in the bag, which is impossible to do if the right leg has any tendency to push toward the ball (no humping here). One place Kisner varies from standard Wayne D preferences is his upper right arm in the backswing, which stops earlier than I like it to, but in his case he completes his backswing perfectly with just the right amount of arm movement getting to the top, leaving the elbow in great position to get in front of his right side in the forward swing, and with the excellent leg movement Kisner has a ton of space for the right arm getting to impact. (The reason I don't prefer that arm positioning in the backswing is the fact that just about every non-tour player who does that screws up the arm movement in transition). All in all Kisner reminds me of Anthony Kim, and barring injury he should well surpass Kim's success.

Ludvig Aberg Swing Analysis: Shaft Plane Approach is the Secret Sauce
Переглядів 11 тис.6 місяців тому
Ludvig Aberg has proven that he can hit the ball as well as anyone, as evidenced by a 61-61 finish at the RSM Tour event with tournament leading strokes gained driving and approach. His swing is mostly conventional other than an extra strong grip (think Duval or Zach Johnson), and his body type seems like the new normal for Tour players, 6 foot 3 and 190 no body fat pounds. If there is one thin...
Billy Casper: A Classic Swing

It should be apparent after watching so many of these swing analysis videos that there are similarities in the swings of the great players prior to 1970 that are so prevalent that we can call the end result “the classic swing”. The list is fairly short but all of the items are integral parts of the whole. 1. Deep right hip and leg movement in the backswing. 2. Takeaway either straight back or i...
Hip Movement from Face On: What to Look For

I spend a lot of time discussing and showing how the best players move their hips when observed from the down the line view. In fact, if you go back just a few weeks you’ll find 3 consecutive videos on hip depth and how players who I think have superior technique use the DTL “hip box”. But as I tell students who send in online videos for review from only DTL, watching from face on is every bit ...

In this video I give more examples of great players who maintained or increased their hip depth during their swings. I first noticed this phenomenon about 25 years ago when I was studying that great DTL view of Hogan in 1947. Growing up I was an exceptionally good player (1st Team All American in 1979) but my swing was modeled after the greats of the era, Watson, Weiskopf, Miller, Nicklaus, etc...

Anyone who has watched my videos over the years knows that I always comment on the “Hip Box” that I draw from the back of the butt and from the front of the knee line in the down the line view. Wayne,,,,,,,X factor Jim Mclean./Leadbetter Were the main culprits in my estimation. Cage that lower body,,,,Torque against the hips,,,,keep that ball between your legs and turn against it,,,,,,,Can you play that way,,,,,of course you can,,,,,at a high level,,,,yes,,,,,but what happens,,,,,,bad backs,,,,,Doc Middlecoff said in the early '90's Tiger would have back problems,,,,,,,,at 6'4" Faldo was a very short driver of the golfball,,,,,,all results of the 80's nonsense.....imho

Planting the left foot back down to initiate the downswing allows the hands to drop inside, eliminating coming over the top. Allowing a bigger turn for more distance is just an added bonus. There, saved you 17 minutes of rambling.

Very good observation. I am a vocalist and golfer and can tell you that vocal instructors typically teach a vocal technique entirely different from the techniques of actual performers like Pavarotti and Corelli. It is strange that regardless of the genre this tends to be the case. My advice is do what the pros are doing. Listen to what the pros have to say. If instructors aren't saying what the pros are saying and doing....don't take their advice. You will be light years ahead doing so. Love the video. Thank you for posting! Steve from Ohio.

Great analysis! Low handicap players' primary focus should be on not getting stuck on the downswing in my very humble opinion. The understanding of the golf swing has made tremendous strides since the 80's, which players like Tom Watson incorporated. This improvement is not based on marginal variances in swing plane, but on connection between upper and lower body.

At a driving range recently, I was told by an 88 year old retired golf professional that by my falling for the grounded left heel in the backswing that began being in vogue in the 1980s that I was not only giving up power, but it was wreaking havoc on my sequencing, causing me to fall back on my back foot on the downswing, resulting in the fat and thin golf shots I was hitting. He told me I could play with a grounded left foot, but timing would be probably be “day to day.” I admitted that was the case for me. He went on to say there are many different ways to swing a golf club and the only thing that matters is impact, but he showed me this video on his phone and suggested I try lifting my left heel on the backswing. My contact became more consistent and I felt I was able to shift my weight forward, moving the low point of my swing ahead of the ball, virtually eliminating my fat and thin misses. I think unless you are are professional or blessed with the flexibility needed to keep the lower body still in order to wind up the upper body or are blessed with exquisite timing, lifting the left heel on the backswing can cure a lot of swing issues.

Watched Phil rip through a bucket at the US Open at Chambers Bay, and it was jaw dropping!! 20 really great players hitting and none of them had the pure athleticism of Mickelson. It was like a line of base model Vettes hitting until the Z06 started hitting, night and day. I’ve seen Jordan and Nolan Ryan it was that much of difference between Phil and the other guys. Watched Tiger but he was coming back from some injury and wasn’t going full throttle.

JT has basically perfected the old school junior swing. Tons of release and extension, but he has managed to make it consistent, largely due to his insane flexibility. His wedge swing shows he doesn't have to hit the ball hard all the time. Such a player's player.

Well, you have to look at his swing arc to truly discern the treasure that nature bestowed upon him, as his old swing coach might say. And, the key to his arc was that his long arms cut him a lot of slack and enabled him to bend his right elbow out at address and move it back in the direction that it pointed. This moved the club back very much on the inside. He then fully extended the extensors in his left hand, taking the club back as far on the inside as he could. When a player does this it then makes the wrists cup. For all the world he appears to bow his left wrist and then cup it. But, this would be virtually impossible. Extensor extension may seem very similar to wrist bow; but, it is very different. The loop at the top was just simply borne out of the fact that he pressed the index finger of his left hand towards the thumb pad of his right hand, to start his downswing.

Wayne. If you look at swings from the 30s, 40s and 50s, most good players took the club back way inside which made them appear OTT coming down. Why do you think most of them took it back inside? It was too common for them all to stumble upon this by coincidence. Snead is my favourite BTW. Thanks.

Tiger reaches his maximum hep lowering much, much earlier than Hogan, I believe this could lead to timing issues on the downswing, and prevent Tiger’s boulders from rotating enough on downswing.

  • @A-FrameWedge
    @A-FrameWedge 2 місяці тому

@1:43 the shaft looks in a pretty good position, but his shoulder are too closed. Which means his arms are out of synch with his shoulder and he needs to manipulate club or he is going to hit a push, or a hook if his hands try to square up the club too much. At the same point Hogan shoulders are much closer to square to target line. As Tiger’s caddie Steve Williams said Tiger never missed a shot on the range. And if you look at Tiger hitting balls on the range vs his swing on the course you will see a much softer transition at the top to the downswing, Tiger was much quicker at the top than on the range, and this would get his upper body to not synch up with his lower body.

You do notice the "player's players" or guys that are well rounded, especially with good short games, have more rotation near the bottom of the arc. It seems guys that rely less on body rotation squaring the face and more on hands and wrists, at least amongst pros, are actually accurate as well. I kinda wish teaching moved away from this hold release pattern and incorporated more of what Stricker does and what Tiger did when he was younger. Training the hands is probably the best lesson anyone can receive.

Absolute Gold! Lifting the left foot promotes a wider backswing and stomping down hard a moment before the downswing helps stabilize the torso to create a more whip like action following through. Result....more power. Also, many of the old pros you profiled bend their lead arm significantly at the top. Everyone nowadays (except Shawn Clement and Marcus Edblad) bend their arms significantly and they hit the ball long and solid.

My problem was getting the left side out of the way - this solved that problem. Just needed to get a good path and you're all set. Works great for older golfers that have some game.

Such a great and spot on analysis here. Loved how with his strong grip he had more of a shut face going back and it would square back up as he would shallow and rotate. Like you said as he got more underneath however that stalled his rotation in turn led to clubface issues. Good analysis here!
